Top 6 Hypnosis FAQs
There are plenty of frequently ask question (FAQ) about hypnosis. Below are 6 of the most popular FAQ about hypnosis.
FAQ 1: Can I be hypnotized?
Anyone with normal intelligence and ability to concentrate are able to learn the hypnotic condition. Research has shown that a large number of people are more hypnotizable than they believe. If you are interested in being hypnotized, it is important to remember to approach the experience with an open mind. Research has suggested that individuals who view hypnosis in a positive light tend to respond better.FAQ 2: How does hypnosis feel?
The experience of hypnosis can vary from one person to another. But generally, you will feel drowsy as you begin to enter hypnosis. Your eyelids will become heavy and fatigue will gradually move over you, giving way to a delightful sense of relaxation. This is the same feeling that happens to you naturally late at night when preparing to go to sleep.

  • Hypnosis FAQs 2

Will I lose consciousness or get stuck? You will only lose consciousness if you fall asleep.  And then you would simply wake up like you would after a nap.  No one has ever gotten "stuck" in hypnosis. Can a hypnotist make me do something against my will? No.  First off, you are conscious during hypnosis and could stop a session anytime you wanted to stop.  And again, your subconscious mind is very protective of you and would not accept any suggestions that would be harmful to you in any way.  Again, your subconscious mind would not accept suggestions that would violate your moral or ethical codes. Do I have to believe in hypnosis in order for it to work for me?Not really.  You don't have to believe in hypnosis in order for it to work for you, but you do have to be willing to give it a try in order for it to work.  Wonderful results have been achieved by people who didn't believe in hypnosis.  And it's not unusual for people to believe that they weren't actually hypnotized when they were. Will I remember what went on in a hypnosis session?Yes.  You can remember all details of a session, and certainly everything you need to remember.  However, because you are in a drowsy state, your memory of some details may fade rather quickly as often happens with dreams.  If you want to remember everything, you can either tape the session or write everything down immediately after the session. Do I have to go into a “deep state” of hypnosis for changes to be effective?Only a light to medium hypnosis state is needed for hypnosis to be effective.  Good results can occur with a light state.  The most important factor in an effective hypnosis session is the level of desire of the client.  If a person's desire is strong and they have a willingness to enter into a relaxed hypnotic state, chances for success are excellent.

  • Hypnosis FAQs 1

Hypnosis FAQs
Here is a list of frequently asked questions about hypnosis which should answer most of the basic questions. What is hypnosis?Hypnosis is a natural state of mind characterized by an extraordinary state of relaxation (physically, mentally, and emotionally), by a heightened awareness and focus, and by an open responsiveness to suggestion.  Hypnosis is a perfectly normal, natural state of mind that everyone is in every day of their lives.  When you become engrossed in a novel, television program, or daydream, you are in this same state of mind.  Your awareness is highly focused to the exclusion of all else.  This relaxed, highly focused state of mind generates the brainwave state known as alpha.  When you fall asleep at night, alpha is the state of mind you are in right before you fall asleep.  You can also be in a deep state of alpha right after you fall asleep before you drift down into the theta brainwave state--the state of mind where sleep occurs.  Alpha is also the state of mind most associated with hypnosis. When you relax into an alpha state of mind, the subconscious mind comes to the forefront and the conscious mind takes a backseat.  This is what makes hypnosis so successful.  For the subconscious mind is open to suggestion.  Where the conscious mind is the critical, analytical part of the mind (the doubting Thomas part of the mind--at least at times), the subconscious mind is highly suggestible.  The subconscious never needs sleep and records everything the five senses has awareness of.  It stores all memories and records all your thoughts and feelings (from which your belief systems and patterns of behavior arise).  Your subconscious carries out your habituated patterns of behavior as well as carrying out all the involuntary functions of the body.  So when the subconscious comes to the forefront of the mind during hypnosis, old belief systems and patterns of behavior can be changed and replaced by new, more beneficial belief systems.  But in order for hypnosis to be successful, a powerful desire for change must be present. What is hypnotherapy?Hypnotherapy is the use of hypnosis as a therapeutic tool.  Hypnotherapy deals with problems at the subconscious level when a client is unable to solve a problem at the conscious level.  Hypnotherapy can be used to treat addictions; overcome phobias; relieve stress; and help clients achieve positive attitudes about themselves. Who can be hypnotized?Pretty much anyone can be hypnotized as long as they are willing.  Since hypnosis is a natural state of mind which people are in every day, anyone of normal intelligence who chooses to be hypnotized can be hypnotized.  There may be a few exceptions such as people on certain medications or people with neurological problems.  Those who claim they can't be hypnotized are simply choosing not to be hypnotized.

  • How Hypnosis Works

How Hypnosis Works
Learn about how to generate an alpha state--the brainwave state required to open the bridge to the powerful subconscious mind--and how you can begin to make powerful changes in your life. Hypnosis induces a natural state of mind (alpha and sometimes theta) in which a person enters into an extraordinarily relaxed state of being—mentally, physically, and emotionally.  Alpha is the brainwave state of mind associated with beginning hypnosis.  It is a natural state of mind we are in every day.  And it is possible for us to induce the alpha state ourselves—or with the guidance of a hypnotist—whenever we choose.  It is a fairly easy process to learn.  But before we learn how to induce an alpha state, now is the perfect time to examine the four brainwave states and gain a better understanding of each of them.  There are four brainwave states: beta; alpha; theta; and delta.  Beta is the normal walking around, conscious state; alpha is a relaxed, drowsy state; theta is the light sleep state; and delta is the deep sleep or coma state.  The following explains brainwave states of mind, the characteristics of these states, and how to access them.Beta--The beta state is our normal, walking around alert state.  It operates in the 14-30 Hz range and we get there by waking up and starting to move and think. Alpha--The alpha state is a light relaxation, beginning hypnosis and visualization state; a daydreaming state of mind in which our brain is operating in the 7-14 Hz range.  We get there by closing our eyes, breathing deeply, and relaxing. Theta--The theta state is the meditation, deep hypnosis, and light sleep state.  This is also the lucid dreaming state and OBE state (out of body experience) in which our brain is operating in the 3-7 Hz range. We get there through guided meditations that take us on a journey deep within ourselves.  We also, of course, can get there through going to sleep. Delta--The Delta state is the deep sleep and healing state and operates in the 0.5-3 Hz range.  We get there through our sleep cycles at night. For hypnosis professionals and self-hypnotists, there are certain aspects of brainwave states and how they relate to hypnosis that should be understood.  The alpha state is important for a number of reasons.  Alpha waves serve as a bridge between the conscious mind (beta brainwave state) and the subconscious mind (theta brainwave state).  The alpha state builds a bridge to the theta state which allows us conscious access to the unconscious material located in our subconscious mind.  This bridge also gives us the opportunity to reprogram our subconscious mind.  Thus, when we practice hypnosis, we can reprogram our subconscious or access information about ourselves that we otherwise might not be able to recall.  For anyone desiring to learn about brainwaves and how to master them, Anna Wise has written a wonderful book on brainwaves--Awakening the Mind.

HomeSelf Hypnosis - How to Do it Correctly
Gene - Posted on 29 April 2010By Derek JJ

There's a lot of talk about self hypnosis, or hypnotizing yourself. This is primarily thanks to the fact that there are many benefits to self hypnosis, including getting rid of bad habits, including smoking, poor eating and so on.Self hypnosis is in fact quite natural and we slip in and out of it on a daily basis without actually knowing it. What you want to be able to do is control this ability and be able to harness the full power of self hypnosis as and when you desire. Sound difficult? Well the good news is that self hypnosis is actually quite simple, provided that you're prepared to put in the time and effort on a regular basis. Like anything, it's all about practice. The more you practice, the easier it will become for you to reach these "heightened states".

  • panic disorder 恐慌症

SYMPTOMSPeople with panic disorder have feelings of terror that strike suddenly and repeatedly with no warning. They can't predict when an attack will occur, and many develop intense anxiety between episodes, worrying when and where the next one will strike. In between times there is a persistent, lingering worry that another attack could come any minute. When a panic attack strikes, most likely your heart pounds and you may feel sweaty, weak, faint, or dizzy. Your hands may tingle or feel numb, and you might feel flushed or chilled. You may have chest pain or smothering sensations, a sense of unreality, or fear of impending doom or loss of control. You may genuinely believe you're having a heart attack or stroke, losing your mind, or on the verge of death. Attacks can occur any time, even during nondream sleep. While most attacks average a couple of minutes, occasionally they can go on for up to 10 minutes. In rare cases, they may last an hour or more. Panic disorder strikes between 3 and 6 million Americans, and is twice as common in women as in men. It can appear at any age--in children or in the elderly--but most often it begins in young adults. Not everyone who experiences panic attacks will develop panic disorder-- for example, many people have one attack but never have another. For those who do have panic disorder, though, it's important to seek treatment. Untreated, the disorder can become very disabling. Panic disorder is often accompanied by other conditions such as depression or alcoholism, and may spawn phobias, which can develop in places or situations where panic attacks have occurred. For example, if a panic attack strikes while you're riding an elevator, you may develop a fear of elevators and perhaps start avoiding them. Some people's lives become greatly restricted -- they avoid normal, everyday activities such as grocery shopping, driving, or in some cases even leaving the house. Or, they may be able to confront a feared situation only if accompanied by a spouse or other trusted person. Basically, they avoid any situation they fear would make them feel helpless if a panic attack occurs. When people's lives become so restricted by the disorder, as happens in about one-third of all people with panic disorder, the condition is called agoraphobia. A tendency toward panic disorder and agoraphobia runs in families. Nevertheless, early treatment of panic disorder can often stop the progression to agoraphobia. Specific Symptoms of Panic Disorder:A person with panic disorder experiences recurrent unexpected Panic Attacks and at least one of the attacks has been followed by 1 month (or more) of one or more of the following:
  • Persistent concern about having additional attacks
  • Worry about the implications of the attack or its consequences (e.g., losing control, having a heart attack, "going crazy")
  • A significant change in behavior related to the attacks
  • Agoraphobia may also be present but isn't required in order to diagnose panic disorder. The Panic Attacks may not be due to the direct physiological effects of use or abuse of a substance (alcohol, drugs, medications) or a general medical condition (e.g., hyperthyroidism). The Panic Attacks are not better accounted for by another mental disorder, such as Social Phobia (e.g., occurring on exposure to feared social situations), Specific Phobia (e.g., on exposure to a specific phobic situation), Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (e.g., on exposure to dirt in someone with an obsession about contamination), Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (e.g., in response to stimuli associated with a severe stressor), or Separation Anxiety Disorder (e.g., in response to being away from home or close relatives).
